GOLDIE’S OFF DUTY
Black people can’t swim.
At least, that’s what Goldie keeps hearing.
Which is a little awkward, considering she spends her days at Tower 17 rescuing people who apparently can.
She knows the currents, the tides, and exactly how long it takes for “Don’t worry, I’m a strong swimmer” to turn into frantic waving.
But once the shift is over? So is she.
No emergencies.
No whistles.
No one calling her name.
Just Venice Beach, sunset, and an iced matcha with a deeply irresponsible amount of whipped cream.
If you start drowning now, please refer to the sign:
LIFEGUARD OFF DUTY.
